Twenty-seven years ago, Blessed Sacrament parishioner, Greg Gannon and a small group of family and friends began to collect cans in the Blessed Sacrament neighborhood to help the hungry. Despite the unfortunate passing of Greg in 2006, family and friends have continued the practice and the food drive has grown by leaps and bounds. Hundreds of adults and children are inspired to get involved and spend one Saturday a year working for this great cause.
The drive has grown beyond the borders of Blessed Sacrament to include neighboring parishes. This year we are going out across the Archdiocese to parishes interested in joining the effort. Not only does this drive help those who are hungry and in need, but it brings our entire community and parish together- which has become an annual tradition for many families. A large number of local DC organizations have benefited from these efforts including many Catholic Charities programs.
Our Goal is to put our Catholic faith into action and to serve the hungry by engaging the larger community. We are passionate about feeding those who are less fortunate and sharing our catholic faith with our neighbors.
